A care home has served notice to its caterer after it received a one-star food hygiene rating.

The Housing 21 home in Hillside Court in Batten Road, St George, was visited by a hygiene inspector on February 15.

Its caterer Hillside Cafe received a single star, meaning ‘major improvement necessary’.

It was found to need improvement in the cleanliness and condition of its facilities and building, as well as its food handling.

The Bristol places given a 0 or 1 star food hygiene rating so far in 2019

And ‘major improvement’ was found to be required in Hillside Cafe’s management of food safety.

A Housing 21 spokesperson said: “The health and wellbeing of our residents at Hillside Court is our priority.

“We expect our catering providers to fulfil their obligations to a high standard, complying with all the relevant food safety and hygiene regulations.

“We have served notice to the Hillside Cafe and secured a new caterer with a five-star Food Standards Agency rating, which will open its business on-site on Wednesday, May 1.

“In the meantime, our on-site care team will continue to offer residents help with the preparation of meals in their own apartments should they need any assistance.”
